YOUTH PROGRAMS

Basketball
Little Dribblers
Come and be taught basketball skills by veteran Head Coach Kurt Geisserl, his staff, and his McDonnell Varsity Ggirls basketball players. Sessions will focus on introducing basic fundamentals of basketball and having fun. All participants will receive a YMCA Little Dribblers t-shirt. For boys and girls in grades K-1.

Big Dribblers
An introduction to playing organized basketball. Participants will build on their little dribbler skills and get experience playing the game of basketball. Learn the fundamentals of basketball, as well as competing in games. Each player receives a Big Dribblers t-shirt. For boys and girls in grades 2-3.

4th and 5th Grade Girls' Basketball
Start basketball season off right by playing at the YMCA. Girls in 4th and 5th grade are welcome. Everyone who registers will be put on a team. There are NO bench warmers here. Everyone plays an equal amount of time. Get your friends together and join now!


Dance
Exploring Ballet
A fun introductory pre-ballet class for ages 2 1/2 to 5. Children will develop coordination, balance, poise, and rhythm awareness while also exploring creative movement.


Gymnastics
Parent/Child (ages 3 and under)
This class is a very beginners' level. Classes are geared towards "playing" on the equipment to become familiar with the equipment. This class will also introduce rolls, bar hangs, jumping, and walks on and off the balance beam. This is a fun introductory plass. Parents are there for comfort and organization. Parents will help guide and assist child through various stations and reinforce what the teacher has taught.

Preschool 1 (ages 3-5)
This class is a beginner class. No prior knowledge of gymnastics is needed, but can be helpful. Gumnasts will learn basic movements and will work on all equipment.

Preschool 2 (ages 305; Prereq: Preschool 1)
Gumnast must have "graduated" from Preschool 1 and have the instructor's permission to go on before taking this class. This class will continue skills learned from Preschool 1.

Pre-Progressive (ages 4-6 with some gymnastics experience)
This class is for those who have "graduated" from Preschool 1 class and have the instructor's permission to go on, or have had previous gymnastics experience. In this class, gymnasts will continue learning basic skills and tumbling. Skills on apparatus will also be introduced on a beginning level. Form and control will be stressed. This class will also include some conditioning to improve strength and flexibility.

Beginners (ages 6 and up with little or no gymnastics experience)
This beginner class is for those who have had no prior gymnastics experience. This class will teach basic motor and tumbling skills. Body control and basic form will be learned, as well as beginning tumbling. Beginning skills on apparatus is also introduced. This is the perfect class for those who would love to get into gymnastics, but need a little help and guidance.

Rollers
This class is for those who have "graduated" from Pre-Progressive class and have the instructor's permission to go on, or those with adequate skills. This class will continue to perfect basic skills, but also will move into more difficult tumbling. New skills will be introduced on apparatus as well. Form and control will be stressed. This class will also include som econditioning to improve strength and flexibility. Gymnasts will learn an dpractice the following skills:
- handstand
- cartwheel both ways
- round-off
- split/tuck jump on beam
- glide swings on bars
- back hip circle on bars
- skills in prior class

Swingers
To be in swingers, gymnast needs to "graduate" from Rollers and have the instructor's permission. This class will get into more serious gymnastics skills. This class will include more intense conditioning and flexibility. The gymnasts are required to complete more specific skills for this class such as the following:
- back walkover
- one-handed cartwheel
- bridge kick over
- backward roll to push-up position
- backward roll to push-up position
- under swing dismount
- skills in prior class

Flippers
Gymnast must have "graduated" from Swingers and have the instructor's permission before moving into Flippers. This is the final, most advanced class level offered at the YMCA. This class is geared towards preparing the gymnasts for team level gymnastics. The following skills are covered, as well as beginning to learn and memorize the routines for the level 4 team level:
- round off back handspring
- cartwheel on beam
- handstand on beam
- front walkover
- shoot through on bars
- under-swing dismount on bars
- swings on high bar
- front hip circle on bars
- skills in prior class
